Journal article editing for complex ideas and specialist readers.

I provide pre-submission editorial support to authors writing for Risk Journals and other specialist publications, helping technically strong research read clearly and make its contribution visible.

Editorial support before submission

Make the paper’s contribution easier to see.

Specialist papers need to be rigorous and precise. They also need a clear line of argument, a structure that helps the reader follow the reasoning, and language that makes the contribution legible without diluting the technical substance.

My experience spans specialist publishing and editorial work with authors writing about risk, finance, markets and quantitative subjects. I bring an informed editorial reader’s perspective to the paper before it reaches the journal’s formal review process.

Structure and argument

Check whether the paper’s purpose, reasoning and sections build in a clear sequence.

Clarity and flow

Improve explanations, transitions and readability while retaining appropriate technical language.

Framing the contribution

Help make the paper’s question, relevance and contribution clear to its intended readership.

Editorial presentation

Review consistency, terminology and presentation, and identify areas that may need the author’s attention.

A clear and responsible role

Editorial help, with the research and authorship kept yours.

I work on the communication and organisation of the paper. Authors remain responsible for the research, analysis, evidence, citations and final decisions. My editorial input cannot guarantee acceptance, replace peer review or verify every technical claim.

We’ll agree the document, type of feedback, deadline and scope in advance. If a paper would benefit from a different kind of specialist review, I’ll say so.
